First Visit? Here’s What to Expect

We Make Things Quick and Painless

At our High Street dental practice, we begin with a comprehensive examination of your teeth and gums. This will include an oral cancer screening and low-radiation digital X-rays to identify decay between your teeth, as well as an OPG (orthopantomogram) X-ray to assess your wisdom teeth. With this information, we can create a customised treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Initial visits can last up to 45 minutes, allowing you to become familiar with the surroundings, meet our staff, and discuss any necessary procedures.

During your first visit, if needed, we will utilise both an ultrasonic scaler and hand instruments to gently remove plaque and calculus build-up from around your teeth and beneath your gumline. Additionally, we will apply fluoride to your teeth, which plays a crucial role in strengthening them against decay. To conclude your visit, we will provide advice, education, and tips to enhance your home oral hygiene routine, ensuring that future cleanings are comfortable and effective.

The presence of plaque and calculus can lead to various potential issues, including bleeding gums (gingivitis), bone loss (periodontitis), bad breath (halitosis), tooth decay, impacted wisdom teeth that may require removal, and ultimately tooth loss. Routine examinations and cleanings are essential for detecting and eliminating harmful bacteria, fostering a healthy and happy oral environment.

Anxious Patients

For many individuals, visiting the dentist can induce significant stress for a variety of reasons. You are not alone—one in six Australian adults report a high level of dental anxiety. At The Northside Dentist, we strive to create a calming and stress-free experience for our patients.

As with most forms of anxiety, the initial step is often the hardest. However, once you arrive at The Northside Dentist, our staff will do everything possible to help you feel at ease. Our dentists and assistants are committed to ensuring the best and most positive dental experience for you and your family.

If needed, our High Street dental clinic offers oral sedation and has Penthrox available to help alleviate anxiety.
