Gaps? Rotated? Worn-out front teeth? Cosmetic bonding, also known as composite resin bonding, serves as a cosmetic alternative to veneers or crowns in the anterior region. Resin bonding effectively repairs chipped, fractured, or worn teeth. It is a minimally invasive technique (dentists often describe this as ‘minimal, if any, tooth removal’) designed to enhance the aesthetics of your smile.
When It Can Be Utilised:
To close diastemas (gaps between teeth)
To lengthen or restore worn-down teeth
To repair small chips or fractured teeth
For front teeth that are misaligned or slightly rotated
As a more economical alternative to porcelain veneers
At The Northside Dentist, we prioritise the conservation of tooth structure. In most cases, minimal to no tooth preparation is necessary (which also means anaesthetic may not be required!). By employing layering techniques with a range of colours, shades, and translucencies, composite resin bonding can achieve a natural, tooth-like appearance.
The compromise, compared to porcelain veneers or crowns, is that resin bonding is not as durable, and the material is more permeable. This can result in chipping and staining over time, necessitating touch-ups—especially if you have a habit of grinding your teeth or biting your nails!
Resin bonding typically involves a straightforward process, usually consisting of one consultation—possibly during your check-up and cleaning—and a subsequent appointment for the treatment. The number of teeth requiring treatment will determine the duration of the second appointment.

Are you dissatisfied with the colour, shape, or frequent chipping of your front teeth? Porcelain veneers may be the ideal treatment for you.
Porcelain veneers are slender, custom-crafted shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth, designed to restore their strength and natural aesthetic. You may be a suitable candidate for porcelain veneers if your front teeth exhibit any of the following characteristics:
Crooked
Discoloured
Chipped or worn
Spaced apart
Asymmetrical
Porcelain veneers are quite similar to cosmetic bonding; however, they typically require minor preparation of the tooth before placement. This preparation creates the necessary space to accommodate the veneer without it appearing or feeling bulky. In rare instances, no-preparation veneers may also be an option. All these details will be thoroughly discussed prior to your first visit, and we may create a 'wax-up' to give you a preview of what the veneers will look like, ensuring your complete satisfaction with the proposed treatment.
First Appointment: Much like the process for crowns, your teeth will be prepared, an impression will be taken, and this will be sent to our dental laboratory. The ceramic technician will then meticulously craft and design your veneer to the finest detail.
Second Appointment: Typically scheduled for two weeks later, we will remove the temporary veneer we fitted for you and trial the permanent veneers, ensuring that the marginal fit, bite, and aesthetics are flawless before obtaining your approval to bond the veneer in place.
While veneers are stronger than direct cosmetic bonding, they still do not possess the same strength as natural teeth. Care should be taken when biting into hard foods, as well as in habits such as nail biting or clenching and grinding. In fact, a grinding mouthguard may be recommended to enhance the longevity of your new veneers!

The least invasive and least damaging method to lighten multiple teeth is the application of a sodium hypochlorite solution (bleach). When administered correctly, this approach is also the most popular means of whitening your smile! With just one treatment, you can transform the appearance of multiple teeth, revealing a more vibrant, energised, and captivating smile!
At The Northside Dentist, we offer two types of whitening, allowing us to tailor a treatment that suits your preferences and schedule. In brief, in-chair bleaching can achieve noticeably whiter teeth in as little as an hour; however, due to the potency of the bleach, it may lead to some tooth sensitivity. Conversely, while take-home teeth whitening may require more time, it offers greater control over sensitivity and the final shade achieved.
What to Expect:
In-Chair Whitening: We will begin by assessing the initial shade of your teeth, after which we will protect your gums with a gel and prepare the bleach solution. This mixture will be applied to your teeth and left on for fifteen minutes. During this time, you can relax, enjoy your favourite television show, or simply relish the tranquility! The bleach will then be removed, and a second application will be placed on your teeth. This process may be repeated up to four times within the same appointment, after which a second shade assessment will be conducted.
Take-Home Whitening: We will take impressions or perform a scan of your teeth, from which we will create custom-made plastic trays for your upper and lower teeth. A subsequent appointment will be scheduled to guide you through the process of applying the bleach in the trays, along with tips and strategies to optimise your whitening experience.
